The Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine in Vézelay is a high place of Christianity in the Middle Ages, an important place of pilgrimage on the way to Santiago de Compostela. The tympanum of the narthex of the basilica is one of the masterpieces work of Romanesque sculpture. The basilica is classified as a historic monument and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
